Texas Holdem Poker

Limit Texas Holdem Poker Betting Structure

As the name says, while you playing Limit Texas Holdem Poker, the amount that you can bet or raise with is "limited" to predefined amounts, so for example, if youre playing a $10/$20 limit holdem game, the big blind pays $10 and the small blind would pay $5, and for the first two rounds of betting all bets and raises are in $10 increments. During the turn and the river betting rounds, you have to post $20 increments. There is variation of Limit Texas Holdem Poker called "Spread Limit Holdem", and this game is played the same as Limit Holdem except for one small difference - any raising is done based on a pre-determined spread. So, for example in a $2/$4 game a casino may set the spreads as $1 to $4 for the first three rounds of betting, so if you raised a $2 bet it would be the called amount $2 + $1, $2, $3, or $4, and the final round of betting would have spread limits of $1 to $8, meaning bets and raises can be anywhere in that range.

Pot Limit Texas Holdem Poker Betting Structure

In this variation of Texas Holdem Poker game the maximum bet can't be larger than the amount that has been accumulated in the pot at that point. Pot Limit Texas Holdem Poker game starts the same way as No Limit and Limit games where the blinds and minimum betting amounts are predefined, and the bets usually start out relatively small, but the more bets placed results in a larger pot, which means that betting can escalate very quickly if players are betting aggressively.

No Limit Texas Holdem Poker Betting Structure

In No Limit Texas Holdem Poker, as the name suggests, each one of the players can bet or raise any amount of their chips at any given time. This type of Texas Holdem Poker, is usually more difficult than Limit Holdem because the amount a player bets isn't limited, and may or may not be indicative of their hand strength, and the minimum bet in the game is usually equal to the big blind for the first two rounds of betting and then twice the big blind for the final three rounds of betting.

Texas Holdem Poker - Play of the hand

Every Texas Holdem Poker game begins with each player being dealt two cards face down, which are called "hole" or "pocket" cards, and these are the only cards that each player will receive individually. The hole cards they only can be revealed at the showdown, making Texas Holdem Poker a closed game. Then the hand continues with a "pre-flop" betting round, beginning with the player to the left of the big blind and continuing clockwise. When the pre-flop betting round ends, assuming there remains at least two players taking part in the hand, the dealer deals a flop - three face-up community cards, followed by a second betting round. All betting rounds in Texas Holdem Poker, begin with the player to the dealer's left and continue clockwise, and after the flop betting round ends a single community card ( known as "the turn" or "fourth street") is dealt, followed by a third betting round, and then single community card (called "the river" or "fifth street") is dealt, followed by a fourth betting round and the showdown, eventually.
